Flooding Displaces Residents In 11 Nasarawa Communities As Lawmaker Seeks Urgent Government Aid
No fewer than eleven riverine communities have been sacked following severe flooding that submerged the Ekye Area Administrative Council in the Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Musa Ibrahim-Abubakar, member representing Doma South Constituency at the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, raises the concern during an on-the-spot assessment of the flood disaster in Doma local government area of Nasarawa state.
Ibrahim-Abubakar, who responded swiftly to the emergency, toured eleven affected communities including Obendo, Achepe, Olegokpa, Ijiwo, Anagoga, Otiya, Tariga, and Odangede, among others.
He, therefore, appealed to both the State and Federal Government to urgently come to the aid of flooding communities.
The lawmaker, who lamented the deplorable condition of his constituents, described the situation as a major humanitarian crisis with grave consequences.
According to him, livelihoods, homes and farmlands have been completely overtaken by floodwaters attributed to the release of excess water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
He, however, encouraged residents of the affected communities to relocate to safer grounds on higher uplands to prevent loss of lives and property, urging them to always heed to government advisories and support government policies and programmes to attract sustainable development.
The lawmaker, who visited the riverine settlements on a speed boat, expressed deep sympathy over the unfortunate development.
The lawmaker donated over N3.5 million to the eleven affected communities to cushion the effect of economy hardship.
Some residents of the affected communities expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for his proactive response and appealed for more support from government and spirited individuals across the state.
