FG Files Fresh Case After Dropping Charges Against Alleged Fake DG
The eight-count criminal charge filed by the federal government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged fraudulent Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), was dismissed by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
At the federal government’s request, the court ended the trial.
A new charge will be brought against him before the Federal Capital Territory High Court for arraignment, according to the federal government.
The request to drop the charges was made by Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN and Director of the Public Prosecution of the Federation DPPF.
Oyedepo informed the court that after reviewing Adeyemi’s case file and the Inspector General of Police’s charge, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, AGF, discovered certain flaws.
He claimed that the FCT High Court, not the Federal High Court, could prosecute the documents that Adeyemi allegedly falsified while running the fictitious agency.
A new charge has been filed at the FCT High Court, according to the DPPF, and Adeyemi will be promptly arraigned again.
Ibrahim Angulu SAN, who represented Adeyemi, did not object, so Justice Umar dismissed the charge.
Adeniyi, 38, was being tried on charges that bordered on forgery and conspiracy, along with two other people whose whereabouts were unknown.
Femi (surname unknown) and Anu (surname unknown) were the two others reportedly at large.
