FG Celebrates Eid Ul Mawlid With A Special Public Holiday

In honor of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the Federal Government has proclaimed Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday.

On behalf of the Federal Government, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo declared the holiday and sent heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and throughout the diaspora.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, signed a statement containing the announcement.

Tunji-Ojo asked Nigerians to use the occasion to consider the virtues—compassion, humility, and service to humanity in particular—that are connected to the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them.”
