Olatunji Disu, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), promised on Friday that the Nigeria Police Force would take strong action against anyone trying to interfere with tomorrow’s Ekiti State governorship election.

In compliance with the Electoral Act and other current laws, Disu issued a warning that electoral offenders and those who intend to compromise the integrity of the ballot will face harsh consequences.

According to IGP Disu, deployed officers have received a comprehensive briefing on their particular rules of engagement.

According to him, the Force must carry out its responsibilities with the highest professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to the law.

“Electoral offences and any act capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

The police chief encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote without fear of intimidation or harassment while assuring Ekiti residents of the Force’s unwavering commitment to a free, fair, and credible election.

The Force has completed a multi-layered, comprehensive security web across all 2,545 polling places in the state, according to a statement released on Friday by Force Public Relations Officer DCP Anthony Placid.

In order to prevent any breakdown of law and order, Placid stated that the deployment also covers vital national infrastructure, important entry and exit points, and key transit corridors.

A watertight operational architecture has been activated, according to CP Shogule Abayomi, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, who also provided a breakdown of the security blueprint.

Placid stated that the police command has set up a special toll-free election emergency line at 080062335577 as part of its proactive steps to guarantee real-time intervention.

The Force asked the public to report any suspicious activity or security threats as soon as possible by using the hotline.

May the best candidate emerge victorious in a free and fair manner, and may the election process be peaceful and free of violence. Let us all hope for a smooth transition that reflects the true will of the people and ushers in progress and unity for Ekiti.
