Dangut Takes Over As WAEC Registrar

Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut has been named the new Registrar and CEO of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

From October 2023 to September 2026, Dangut headed WAEC’s Nigeria National Office.

Nigerian Demianus G. Ojijeogu, Dangut, will hold the position for five years, from October 2026 to September 2031, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Headquarters, Accra.

The Council, the international governing body of WAEC, approved the appointment during its 74th Annual Meeting, which took place in Accra, Ghana, in March 2026.

On October 1, 2026, Dangut became the Council’s 14th Registrar.

Dangut, who was born on October 2, 1967, has a Master of Science in Animal Science (1994), a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production (1991), a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science (2017), and a Master of Education in Administration and Planning (2020).

Before joining the Council in 1998, he started his teaching career in 1994 as a WAEC examiner at St. Louis College, Jos.

A clever test developer and administrator, he has held a number of positions, such as Assistant Registrar, Test Development Division, Ogba, Lagos; Head of Examinations Security and Deputy Branch Controller, Uyo and Bauchi; Branch Controller, Yola; Controller, Post-Examinations Department; Zonal Coordinator, Ikeja; and Deputy Registrar, Head of National Office.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dangut is renowned for using ICT to enhance test administration, development, and post-test activities.

He promoted important innovations as Head of National Office, such as the introduction of a Digital Electronic Marking System, the serialization of question papers, and the implementation of Computer-Based WASSCE.

Additionally, he was in charge of the Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform, Digital Records Archive, and systems for exam logistics and examiner monitoring.

Throughout his career, the Nigeria Examinations Committee commended him for his handling of examination matters from 2000 to 2006, and the Ondo State Government awarded him an Award for Meritorious Service during his NYSC year.
