Court Orders Arrest of Former Minister and Enugu PDP Governorship Candidate Uche Nnaji Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an order for the arrest of Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and recently emerged governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The order followed an ex parte application filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026.

According to court filings, the commission sought judicial approval after alleging that Nnaji failed to honour invitations issued in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of certificate forgery.

Counsel to the ICPC, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court that the application became necessary due to the former minister’s repeated absence from investigative proceedings.

The commission requested permission to declare Nnaji wanted through national newspapers, social media platforms and other communication channels. It also sought an order authorising law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to identify, arrest and hand him over to the ICPC for investigation.

The court granted all the reliefs sought by the anti-corruption agency and ruled that the order would remain in effect until Nnaji is arrested.

Nnaji was appointed Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023. He later stepped down from office following allegations surrounding academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials submitted during his ministerial screening and confirmation process.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official public response from Nnaji regarding the court order and the allegations under investigation.
