The development followed a chaotic morning when journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were turned away from the White House by the US Secret Service, with some reporters having their press credentials seized.

The journalists were initially denied access despite an early-morning ruling by a federal judge directing the government to restore their credentials.

Lawyers representing CNN, MS NOW and Politico subsequently requested an emergency hearing after journalists from the three outlets were again blocked from accessing the White House.
