Nigerian singer Burna Boy and Colombian pop sensation Shakira shared the stage during the 2026 World Cup opening ceremony.

At the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday, the singers performed “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song, to thunderous applause from the audience.

In the midst of fireworks, groups of dancers dressed in elaborate costumes spun around a massive model of the World Cup trophy, sharing the spotlight with the musicians.

The ceremony was held one hour following the competition’s first match between South Africa and Mexico.

Along with the United States and Canada, Mexico is co-hosting the World Cup, which will feature 48 teams competing for the first time.
