American model Amber Rose revealed that she no longer identifies as a feminist, stating that her opinions changed as she grew older and became a mother to boys.
Even though she insisted that she still believes in “girl power,” she clarified that as she became aware of how much both sexes depend on one another, her viewpoint on the relationship between men and women changed.
“I believe that becoming a mother is sometimes necessary.
We really need you guys for a lot of things,” she said, acknowledging that when she was younger, she was unaware of the extent to which women depend on men for demanding roles, heavy physical labor, and childrearing.
Speaking to her fan base, Rose admitted that some of her female fans don’t like her new perspective.
She said, “I feel like a lot of my girl fans, they’re, like, low-key mad at me that I’m not a feminist anymore.”
She defended her position, though, by pointing out that men and women can depend on one another and naturally play different roles.
She emphasized the physical support and security a man offers by using the example of boarding a yacht to illustrate her point: “Even just getting on the yacht. It’s like that man’s safety net, making sure I get on.
I wouldn’t want a woman to assist me because I think, “Girl, we’re both going to fall.”
Feminism is the belief that people of all genders deserve equal rights, opportunities, and respect. While motherhood may shape someone’s personal perspective, it doesn’t have to conflict with those values. Motherhood is indeed a beautiful thing—one that can bring love, purpose, and a fresh outlook on life.
