Akume Appeals To Northerners To Back Tinubu’s Presidency

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has called on the North to back President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign, cautioning that any Northern candidate would be acting against the interests of the region.

Akume stated that before pursuing its own presidential aspirations in 2031, the North should let Tinubu finish his political project.

In advance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in the state capital, the SGF addressed Benue State natives living in Kaduna on Saturday.

In advance of the general elections in 2027, he urged Northerners to stay unified and refrain from pursuing personal political goals that might jeopardize the region’s interests.

“The North must remain united and focus on its collective interest rather than allow individual ambitions to divide us,” Akume said.

“President Bola Tinubu should be allowed to complete his political project before the North considers its own presidential ambition in 2031.”

“We must not allow political, religious or personal differences to undermine our common interests. The strength of the North lies in our ability to work together.”

He also urged Nigeria’s many ethnic and religious groups to live in harmony and work together, pointing out that unity was essential to the country’s progress.

The SGF advised the populace to closely monitor political developments and be wary of those whose goals might conflict with the region’s larger interests.

In order to discuss issues impacting their community, political representation, and interaction with national leaders, the gathering brought together Kaduna-based Benue indigenous people and other political stakeholders.

Party leaders, supporters, and political stakeholders from all over the nation are anticipated to attend the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.

Ultimately, politicians should not have to beg Nigerians for their votes; their actions and record in office should speak for them and earn the people’s trust. As the election approaches, we pray for a peaceful and credible process.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
