Aisha Yesufu’s Bold Reason For Declining the House Of Reps Ticket

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist, has explained why she turned down the House of Representatives ticket that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) offered her for the general elections in 2027.

In an interview with Symfoni TV, Yesufu stated that her rejection of the offer was motivated by moral considerations. She also mentioned that other political offers were made subject to certain requirements, which she declined.

“I did not accept the House of Representatives ticket that was given to me because there were other people who were doing it on the issue of principle. There were many issues where many people brought ‘I will make you this but you have to do A, B, C, D. It’s pretty obvious.”

“We are not going to sell Nigeria. I don’t have to be president by force. We won’t make any promises that we will not fulfill.”
