Artificial intelligence (AI) should not be viewed as a threat to the film industry, according to Nollywood actor and director Femi Adebayo, who describes AI as a tool that can enhance creative work.
According to Femi, if professionals in the field are properly trained to use AI, it could make their jobs easier, especially when it comes to producing indigenous stories.
On Tuesday, he appeared in an interview with TheCable that was posted on Instagram.
He said, “I actually wonder why people think AI is a threat to our industry. As far as I’m concerned, AI is an enhancer of smooth works in our industry, you know. So what I think we should do is do professional trainings in AI, and then we can now know how to use the AI in enhancing our projects, our work, especially our indigenous stories. So for me, AI is more of a helper than a destroyer.”
Femi Adebayo is right: AI should not be seen as a threat to the film industry, but as a tool that can support filmmakers. While AI may shape the industry’s future, it cannot bring the originality, emotion, and lived experience that make stories distinctive. Ultimately, filmmaking depends on human creativity—and AI cannot replace it.
