Governor Siminalayi Fubara says completed infrastructure projects will give APC candidates tangible achievements to showcase during the 2027 election campaign.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the delivery of major infrastructure projects by his administration will give the All Progressives Congress (APC) a strategic advantage in the 2027 general elections, as the party’s candidates will campaign on the administration’s achievements across the state.
Fubara stated this on Wednesday while inaugurating the 14.5-kilometre Agba-Ndele Road and a bridge linking communities in Emohua and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor said the projects, alongside several others recently completed and inaugurated by his administration, would provide the APC with tangible achievements to present to voters, particularly at the grassroots.
“I believe that what we have done here today will make it easy for our candidate that will be representing us in the forthcoming elections.
When he comes here to campaign, more especially in Emohua, he will tell them: my party did this and my party did that. So it will be easy for us to win election here,” he said.
Fubara described the road and bridge as critical interventions aimed at opening up rural communities and translating government policies into visible improvements in the lives of residents.
He said the project became necessary because of the deplorable condition of the old Abua Road, which had subjected commuters to prolonged journeys and other difficulties.
“I’m not interested in just doing anything; I’m interested in doing something that can add value and change the life of our people,” the governor said, stressing that the new infrastructure would ease transportation challenges confronting communities in the area.
Fubara also said the bridge was initiated by an administration predating both his tenure and that of his immediate predecessor, but was completed by his government because of its importance to the people.
According to him, governance should be regarded as a relay race in which successive administrations build on projects capable of delivering lasting benefits to citizens.
“When you see something that will benefit the people, it doesn’t matter who started it. What is important is you complete it and put it to use,” he said.
The governor charged the chairmen of Emohua and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas, Chidi Lloyd and Owolobi Michael Ofori, respectively, to take responsibility for protecting government projects in their domains.
He also urged residents, youth groups and traditional rulers in Agba-Ndele and adjoining communities to take ownership of the infrastructure and guard against vandalism.
The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the 14.5-kilometre road has a 10.3-metre binder-course width, a 7.3-metre wearing-course width and three-metre shoulders, with 0.6-metre by 0.6-metre drainage.
He said the bridge measures 239.4 metres in length and 10.3 metres in width, with 1.5-metre walkways on both sides, while the project also includes a 1.2-kilometre access road.
