In the northeastern region of Nigeria, two suspected cases of Ebola have been found. Both people are being kept in isolation while investigations and laboratory testing are carried out by health authorities.
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) provided an update on the disease situation, stating that laboratory testing was being done on samples from suspected cases while contact identification and listing were ongoing.
It made clear that the people’s designation as suspected cases did not imply that they had tested positive for Ebola, pointing out that confirmation would rely on test results.
As health authorities investigate the suspected cases, everyone should take precautions, practise good hygiene, wash their hands frequently with soap and water, and use hand sanitizer when handwashing facilities are unavailable.
