Under the Needs Assessment Revitalization Fund, the Federal Government has given N38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country to improve teaching and learning facilities and address infrastructure deficiencies.

79 universities, 46 polytechnics, and 41 colleges of education are included in the intervention; universities receive the largest portion of the funding.

In a statement released on Sunday by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie, the Federal Ministry of Finance revealed that the funds would support approved projects in beneficiary institutions.

The statement read, “The Federal Government has disbursed N38.93bn to 166 public tertiary institutions nationwide under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund.”

The ministry claims that N28.5 billion is allocated to universities, N5.8 billion to polytechnics, and N4.7 billion to colleges of education.

Universities would receive roughly 73.2% of the announced N38.93 billion intervention, making them the biggest beneficiaries, according to an analysis of the allocations.

Colleges of education would receive about 12.1 percent, while polytechnics would receive about 14.9 percent.

The ministry clarified that the goal of the intervention was to support the execution of agreements made between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, as well as to address persistent infrastructure issues in public tertiary institutions.

“The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the needs of public universities and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.”

“The funds are expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects addressing critical infrastructure and other identified institutional needs, with the overall objective of strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.”

We hope and pray that the funds reach all 166 institutions promptly and are used transparently and responsibly for their intended upgrades, bringing lasting improvements to students and staff.
